Moral thief

moral thief

In today's society, due to the decline of morality, there are more and more intrigues and contradictions among people. Many people act on the surface and act on their backs, thinking they are smart. There are also people who are self-righteous and think that they have done a good job, but they are very unpopular in the eyes of discerning people. So what is a good person, a kind person? How to tell if a person is a kind person? We should all think about such a question. Good people, kindness is the foundation of life, and it is also the most lacking and most needed quality in this society. In the four trainings of Liaofan, there was a center monk who said something like this:

What is beneficial to others is good, what is beneficial to oneself is evil. If it is beneficial to others, beating and scolding others is good. If it is beneficial to oneself, it is evil to respect others. Therefore, when people do good deeds, those who benefit others are public, and those who are public are true; those who benefit themselves are private, and those who are private are false. Those who come from the heart are true, and those who are imitated are false. Those who do nothing but do it are true, and those who do something but do it are false. When people today see someone who is cautious and not stubborn, most of them call him a good person and agree with him. The sage, on the other hand, would rather recognize the wild and unruly. Those who are prudent and meek, although everyone in the same town says he is good, but because he drifts with the crowd, has no ambition, and cannot be expected to make progress, the sage must say that he is a moral thief. The standards of good and evil, secular and saint, are clearly opposite. If you look at it broadly, all kinds of secular choices, praises and criticisms are infallible. The good, evil, blessings and misfortunes of heaven, earth, ghosts and gods are all the same as the saints, not the same as the secular world. Therefore, when you encounter good deeds, you must not be led by the nose by your ears and eyes. You can only reflect on yourself and cleanse silently from the subtleties of your heart. A pure heart of helping the world is the end, a little bit of the heart of the world is the end, a pure heart of loving others is the end, a little bit of the heart of the world is the end, and a pure respect for others is the end, A little cynical heart is a song.

This passage sets up a standard for us to distinguish between good and bad, and good and evil, that is, to distinguish a person's good from bad through his thinking, that is, the starting point of doing things. This is also the most important link that people often overlook. Because in today's society, what people do on the surface is for others to see, but the real thoughts in their hearts are hidden, such as the current adjectives: old fox, with ghosts, hypocrisy, posturing, cunning and changeable, etc. In fact, everyone has more or less such a way of thinking in their hearts. And if you want to truly become a thoroughly good person, then you need to start from the heart, and you can't make one thing on the surface and another thing behind the back just because others can't see your heart.

Reflecting on myself according to this standard, I feel like I am on the right track, and I feel that I am playing the role of a moral thief in my life. The thoughts deep in my heart are not good at first, but by covering up and doing the so-called "right thing" for others to see that is not consistent with my inner thoughts, so as to achieve inner satisfaction or other purposes. For myself, this is something that must be vigilant and corrected, and how to do it is the same as mentioned in the four trainings of Fan Fan above: reflect on yourself, cleanse silently from the subtleties of the heart. Let your starting point be righteous, kind, and beautiful from the very beginning, so that naturally, your heart will gradually become brighter and no longer dark.
