不是所有准则都适用 Not All Guidelines Apply

Recently we've been reading "The 38 Letters from J.D. Rockefeller to His Son", and some of them got me thinking. Rockefeller mentioned in a letter to his son that one must take risks and believe in one's own abilities. This sentence is very reasonable, but it is not applicable to everyone. It has a prerequisite, and it requires us to have a correct self-awareness.

Self-awareness means that a person understands his own strengths and weaknesses, knows what his abilities are, and what his value is. If a person does not have a correct understanding of himself, but blindly believes in his own abilities, then this criterion will make him become false and arrogant, and finally walk into the abyss of failure.

There is nothing wrong with the principles that Rockefeller taught, the key is who uses them. For those who have received a good home and school education and have the right self-perception, it is absolutely right to take risks and believe in their own abilities, because that will allow them to seize the opportunity to succeed.
